We have been busy refreshing our patterns at Sew-Ichigo. The designs stay the same, instead we've reduced the number of sheets you need to print, made sure all links are working and added free downloads to both our shops so you won't miss any content. We are slowly working out way through everything and all patterns will now be available as singles rather than sets. It takes time as we both have day jobs and other commitments but slowly and steadily it's being achieved and you can find them at our <a href="https://payhip.com/sewichigo" target="_blank">Payhip</a> and <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/Sewichigo" target="_blank">Etsy</a> shops.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_JfdlJGL_vE/XKtWB75VUDI/AAAAAAAATsw/hBIJKXkuxdcPJLtLA2W2bo8s-aAKQWVGQCEwYBhgL/s1600/Chick1%2Bcopy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="1280" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_JfdlJGL_vE/XKtWB75VUDI/AAAAAAAATsw/hBIJKXkuxdcPJLtLA2W2bo8s-aAKQWVGQCEwYBhgL/s640/Chick1%2Bcopy.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We started with our Spring Fever patterns which are now <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/672025556/hatching-chick-foundation-paper-pieced?ref=shop_home_active_3" target="_blank">Chick</a>, <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/685873323/flying-bird-foundation-paper-pieced?ref=shop_home_active_4" target="_blank">Flying Birds</a> (Hummingbird and a Chaffinch), <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/672030610/swan-foundation-paper-pieced-quilt-block?ref=shop_home_active_2" target="_blank">Swan</a>, and <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/685877309/tulips-foundation-paper-pieced-quilt?ref=related-1" target="_blank">Tulips.</a> We also had a very kind invitation to write <a href="https://www.kohatupatterns.com/2019/04/perfect-easter-quilt-block-kerry-from.html" target="_blank">a blog post for RJ</a> at <a href="https://www.kohatupatterns.com/" target="_blank">Kohatu Patterns</a>. She also designs and sells foundation paper piecing patterns (check out her <a href="https://payhip.com/KohatuPatterns" target="_blank">floral and vehicle patterns</a> in particular!). You can find a quick embroidery tutorial (also available on Instagram, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/sewichigo/" target="_blank">@sewichgo</a> <a href="https://www.instagram.com/stories/highlights/18049951210009425/" target="_blank">Stories highlights)</a>.</div>

You may recognise these designs from the themed foundation paper piecing cover booklet that we worked on for<a href="http://www.lovepatchworkandquilting.com/" target="_blank"> Love Patchwork & Quilting magazine</a> back in 2015. We've tweaked some of the designs to simplify some of the patterns or make the piecing a little easier and we've added a new beginner friendly pattern, Trash Bin, which is available as a <a href="https://payhip.com/b/katu" target="_blank">free download</a> at </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

<span style="text-align: center;">Here's a tutorial using the Christmas Dress from our </span><a href="http://sew-ichigo.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/sew-very-christmas-our-new-pattern-set.html" style="text-align: center;" target="_blank">Sew Very Christmas pattern set</a><span style="text-align: center;"> to make a lavender bag dress hanger to hang in your wardrobe.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lJrmNl7ATuY/VlWOwBwG3pI/AAAAAAAAP_g/j8TQRDT9iwE/s1600/Lavenderbag8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lJrmNl7ATuY/VlWOwBwG3pI/AAAAAAAAP_g/j8TQRDT9iwE/s640/Lavenderbag8.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
To make one lavender bag, you will need:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<ul>
<li><a href="http://sew-ichigo.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/sew-very-christmas-our-new-pattern-set.html" target="_blank">Sew Very Christmas pattern set</a></li>
<li>Free hanger template <a href="http://payhip.com/b/dFn9" target="_blank">download here</a></li>
<li>Fat eight lightweight linen (Robert Kaufman Essex linen blend is ideal</li>
<li>Small scraps floral fabric</li>
<li>6" square backing fabric</li>
<li>Lace trims, 6" lengths</li>
<li>Hanging Ribbon, 10"</li>
<li>Six strand embroidery floss in grey</li>
<li>Perle cotton thread</li>
<li>Embroidery needle</li>
<li>Dried Lavender</li>
<li>Button for decoration </li>
</ul>
<div>
<br />
Finished size 4 ¼" x 5" (not including lace trim)<br />
Seam allowances are ¼" throughout</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
1. Print the dress pattern at 75%. This will make a 4.5" block rather than a 6" block I find it easier to use the square pattern on page 9. I also added on ½" at the top of the pattern to create extra room to add the hanger embroidery. Cut your pattern along the section lines. Print the template pattern. Cut out.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://payhip.com/b/dFn9" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="311" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wib-cVqleQI/VlWPWMtzO_I/AAAAAAAAP_8/oUXMfjFbVpU/s320/Sew-Ichigo-Hanger%2BCover.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2. Foundation paper piece your dress block following the pattern directions. Leave large seam allowances around the outer edge. Remove paper but do not trim your block. Place the hanger template over the dress and using a pencil, lightly trace around it on to the background fabric only. At the top of the hanger shape, lightly drawn in a question mark ? shape without the dot.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: center;">3. Using three strand of floss and starting at the left armhole of the dress, </span><a href="http://sublimestitching.com/pages/how-to-stem-stitch" style="text-align: center;" target="_blank">stem stitch</a><span style="text-align: center;"> or </span><a href="http://sublimestitching.com/pages/how-to-back-stitch" style="text-align: center;" target="_blank">back stitch </a><span style="text-align: center;">following the pencil line to create the hanger. When you come to the dress section, run your thread underneath catching it in the seams on the reverse side of the block.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JWPGLNdWjF8/VlWSNpbJ9fI/AAAAAAAAQAQ/zNPRPrAeM8w/s1600/Lavenderbag2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JWPGLNdWjF8/VlWSNpbJ9fI/AAAAAAAAQAQ/zNPRPrAeM8w/s640/Lavenderbag2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
4. Trim and square your block keeping the dress and hanger central. You will need at least ⅜"" above the top of the hanger to provide ¼" seam allowance. The finished size will vary according to how much you allow but mine came out 5" wide x 5 ½" long. Place on top of your backing fabric, right sides together and use it as a template to cut out the same size backing fabric.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-U9WlVP7r-NU/VlWOtYKd5rI/AAAAAAAAP-0/4wTN4OtuCCM/s1600/Lavenderbag3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-U9WlVP7r-NU/VlWOtYKd5rI/AAAAAAAAP-0/4wTN4OtuCCM/s640/Lavenderbag3.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: center;">5. Fold the hanging ribbon in half and place the raw ends at the centre top of the lavender bag front with the loop hanging down. Baste in place inside the seam allowance. Place lace along bottom edge of the lavender bag front and cut to the same size. Turn ¼" seam allowance at the side edges of the lace. I double turned these edges using the ¼" seam allowance. Place the lace right sides together with lavender bag front and with the scalloped edge facing upwards and stitch along the bottom using ¼" seam.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qh4k4V37TmA/VlWOtf0i6_I/AAAAAAAAP-s/XtNK-TJ_MDk/s1600/Lavenderbag4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qh4k4V37TmA/VlWOtf0i6_I/AAAAAAAAP-s/XtNK-TJ_MDk/s640/Lavenderbag4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: center;">6. Press lace downwards creating a hem along the lower edge of the lavender bag front If you wish to add another narrower piece of trim on top of the lace, cut the length and finish the edges as in step 5 and sew on top of the lower edge hem. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span></div>
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HcxR-YY_3io/VlWOvEC_6GI/AAAAAAAAP_I/uC5RrwWoOqw/s1600/Lavenderbag6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HcxR-YY_3io/VlWOvEC_6GI/AAAAAAAAP_I/uC5RrwWoOqw/s640/Lavenderbag6.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: center;">7. On the bottom edge of the backing fabric, press and turn ¼" hem along the bottom edge. Place lavender bag front and backing fabric right sides together, pin side and top edges and sew together using ¼" seam- check hanging loop is hanging down freely and not catching anywhere! Turn bag through bottom opening and press.</span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-x2zLAGzfZBA/VlWOuHjYxhI/AAAAAAAAP_A/39jpZ_K8L-Y/s1600/Lavenderbag5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-x2zLAGzfZBA/VlWOuHjYxhI/AAAAAAAAP_A/39jpZ_K8L-Y/s640/Lavenderbag5.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
8. Hand sew a running stitch around side and top edges of the bag using perle cotton. Do not sew along the bottom opening.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2Q5MlC5jvLo/VlWOv1J1pkI/AAAAAAAAP_Q/ze7NYrQKWh0/s1600/Lavenderbag7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2Q5MlC5jvLo/VlWOv1J1pkI/AAAAAAAAP_Q/ze7NYrQKWh0/s640/Lavenderbag7.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: center;">9. Lightly fill the lavender bag with dried lavender and slip stitch the opening closed on the backing side. Sew a button to the bottom of the hanging loop. Your lavender bag is complete!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

So here is it, the Big Spring Clean cover booklet that we have designed for <a href="http://www.lovepatchworkandquilting.com/" target="_blank">Love Patchwork and Quilting magazine</a> with eight new retro themed designs. It goes on sale in UK shops today and hits USA in around 4-6 weeks.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-j6WYvyacgYU/VRuj2YuFh7I/AAAAAAAANiY/nOzxxmco164/s1600/COVER.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-j6WYvyacgYU/VRuj2YuFh7I/AAAAAAAANiY/nOzxxmco164/s1600/COVER.jpg" height="640" width="422" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It includes a step by step tutorial for the radio block. This includes using templates to cut more accurate pieces, fussy cutting and adding appliqué details.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-h9-i516F7xU/VRuj2SKUk3I/AAAAAAAANic/UcwC1ke_iOc/s1600/ItSparkles.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-h9-i516F7xU/VRuj2SKUk3I/AAAAAAAANic/UcwC1ke_iOc/s1600/ItSparkles.jpg" height="640" width="452" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is Penny's design, an atomic sparkle! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gkY16HpAltY/VRuj5HHHyVI/AAAAAAAANi8/CFRR37vk5wE/s1600/SoapBubbles.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gkY16HpAltY/VRuj5HHHyVI/AAAAAAAANi8/CFRR37vk5wE/s1600/SoapBubbles.jpg" height="640" width="452" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The soap bubbles was a joint design, started by Penny and finished and sewn up by me.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SrmNa4qFQdo/VRuj3Eqk87I/AAAAAAAANjc/Hd8N8D-Cj8Y/s1600/LetItShine.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SrmNa4qFQdo/VRuj3Eqk87I/AAAAAAAANjc/Hd8N8D-Cj8Y/s1600/LetItShine.jpg" height="640" width="452" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Shine is one of my favourites, and I used the minimum number of separate sections for the text to simplify the construction. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Penny picked the most perfect fabrics for this brush, the bristles have got so much movement!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VgE5ME9p1gc/VRuj5sklrYI/AAAAAAAANjA/61R8NSk1khc/s1600/WashAndGo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VgE5ME9p1gc/VRuj5sklrYI/AAAAAAAANjA/61R8NSk1khc/s1600/WashAndGo.jpg" height="640" width="452" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Penny's Wash and Go block shows how effective fussy cuts can be in foundation paper pieced blocks. The text print is the first piece to be added in that section which makes construction much easier</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This retro light was by me- I think it has the wrong name on. Its a quick straightforward design to sew! It is such a happy collection of blocks and we both love the art work and layout from the Love Patchwork and Quilting team- thank you to Jen and Alice and all others involved. You can find Love Patchwork and Quilting issue 20 in the UK in WHSmiths, Supermarkets and large newsagents. </div>

Who is ready for spring? We are!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Kerry and I have been feverish for spring, so we decided to bring it a little early with a new pattern set "<a href="http://payhip.com/b/BhCv" target="_blank">Spring Fever</a>". You can buy them as a <a href="http://payhip.com/b/BhCv" target="_blank">set</a>, or as singles (links below).</div>

In order for Kerry and I to meet these new laws, we have decided to switch to a new payment platform, Payhip. (Here is our <a href="https://payhip.com/sewichigo" target="_blank">Sew-Ichigo shop page on payhip</a>!)<br />
<br />
You will still find our patterns for sale in our <a href="http://sew-ichigo.blogspot.com/p/shop.html" target="_blank">shop here</a>, however, we have removed our Craftsy and Etsy patterns until they change the way their sales are completed.<br />
<br />
We are so happy that payhip has allowed us to continue selling our patterns! You will notice our <a href="http://sew-ichigo.blogspot.com/p/shop.html" target="_blank">shop </a>page is slightly different now. Just click on the photos to purchase whichever pattern you like. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://payhip.com/b/UzAb" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XFTLWdc4sOo/VK0Oq7UW_MI/AAAAAAAAMvw/_AUjV1E8q7s/s1600/In-The-Pantrycover%2Bcopy.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Happy shopping!<br />

A black friday sale awaits you here at <a href="http://sew-ichigo.blogspot.co.uk/p/shop.html" target="_blank">Sew-Ichigo!</a> There is a 25% off all our patterns in our<a href="http://sew-ichigo.blogspot.co.uk/p/shop.html" target="_blank"> shop</a>, plus the <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/user/723443/pattern-store?ext=craftlet-pattern" target="_blank">Craftsy</a> and <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/Sewichigo?ref=pr_shop_more" target="_blank">Etsy </a>shops. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://sew-ichigo.blogspot.co.uk/p/shop.html" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mN-Y8ChCdfI/VHW6P9xJgcI/AAAAAAAAMhA/BAr5qZ3Z44U/s1600/sew%2Bichigo%2Bbanner%2Bcopy%2B2%2Bcopy.gif" height="228" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
There will be changes starting in January to what we sell, where and pricing may rise at some point to take account on new EU legislation that effects all digital sales to the EU no matter where the seller is based- see<a href="http://verykerryberry.blogspot.co.uk/2014/11/digital-downloads-and-eu-law-stuff-you.html" target="_blank"> here</a> and <a href="http://sewtakeahike.typepad.com/sewtakeahike/2014/11/vat-goes-global.html" target="_blank">here </a>for more info. We don't know exactly what the full impact will be but we hope to still be selling to everyone everywhere as soon as we can. Our guess is it will take a little while to get everything into place so this is a great time to take advantage of our annual Black Friday discount and this one is even bigger than last years!</div>

She wanted to profile <a href="http://sew-ichigo.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">Sew-Ichigo </a>in her forthcoming book, <a href="http://www.amazon.com/QuiltEssential-Directory-Contemporary-Patterns-Fabrics/dp/160705793X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1394268651&sr=8-1&keywords=quiltessential" target="_blank">Quiltessential.</a> The book is has been published a few months now and it is so exciting and an incredible honour to be in the company of some amazing designers.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-auy-gF0tNSw/UxrW7_VPx6I/AAAAAAAAKQI/BPIUa5vWnQ0/s1600/P1000221.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-auy-gF0tNSw/UxrW7_VPx6I/AAAAAAAAKQI/BPIUa5vWnQ0/s1600/P1000221.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It is a directory style book; a reference for process and design. Inside you'll find piecing techniques, texture, colour and practicalities like quilt sizes, fabric maths and binding alongside clear and detailed photographs and rich inspiration images. I've had it sat on my shelves a few months now and it is my go to resource when I want to check on a technique or just bounce ideas around my head.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_ganrF5jYXU/UxrXoruSxyI/AAAAAAAAKQQ/d6B_F16g2UQ/s1600/qu.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_ganrF5jYXU/UxrXoruSxyI/AAAAAAAAKQQ/d6B_F16g2UQ/s1600/qu.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I did have a wry grin at the mention of grease proof paper for the freezer paper technique. I have the UK edition and at an editorial level, someone has made the decision that grease proof is the nearest UK equivalent to freezer paper! The tulip design in the picture above might look familiar: it's <a href="http://charisecreates.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">Charise's</a> <a href="http://www.charisecreates.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/hello-spring-tulip-bag-and-tote-bag.html" target="_blank">'Hello Spring'</a>. There are lots of other familiar faces inside from <a href="http://www.redpepperquilts.com/" target="_blank">Rita of Red Pepper Quilts</a> to <a href="http://syko.typepad.com/" target="_blank">Kajsa Wikman of Syko</a>. A thoroughly useful, inspiring and recommendable<a href="http://www.amazon.com/QuiltEssential-Directory-Contemporary-Patterns-Fabrics/dp/160705793X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1394268651&sr=8-1&keywords=quiltessential" target="_blank"> book!</a></div>

I wanted to quickly share a new pair of slippers I made using <a data-mce-href="ayumills.blogspot.com" href="http://www.typepad.com/site/blogs/6a00e009895feb883300e009895fef8833/post/6a00e009895feb8833019b0442f16f970d/ayumills.blogspot.com" target="_blank" title="Pink Penguin">Ayumi's</a> log cabin slipper pattern (you can get the slipper pattern <a data-mce-href="http://www.interweavestore.com/log-cabin-slippers" href="http://www.interweavestore.com/log-cabin-slippers" target="_blank" title="Interweave Store">here</a>). I love this pattern! I mean I really really really love it!<br />
<br />
For the tops, I used my Espresso cup pattern which is <a data-mce-href="http://sew-ichigo.blogspot.com/p/shop.html" href="http://sew-ichigo.blogspot.com/p/shop.html" target="_blank" title="Sew-Ichigo Shop">available in the Parisienne Cafe Set</a>. The Espresso cups seem very appropriate for those early mornings when you put your slippers on. Reminding you that a little bit of caffeine will make everything all better.<br />
<br />
Happy weekend to you all!sewtakeahikehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13787842449238535140noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1497143646217236954.post-91362063258421012112013-12-16T07:11:00.000-08:002013-12-16T07:11:00.946-08:00In the Pantry mini instructions<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
Several people expressed interest in making their own <a href="http://sewtakeahike.typepad.com/sewtakeahike/2013/12/aurifil-mini-quilt-challenge.html" target="_blank">"In the Pantry" mini</a> so I put together a quick tutorial to help!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
First of all, you'll need to purchase the "<a href="http://sew-ichigo.blogspot.com/p/shop.html" target="_blank" title="Sew-Ichigo shop">In the Pantry</a>" pattern set from Kerry and I's Sew-Ichigo shop. The pattern set is chock full of possibilities. Kerry has come up with 4 variations of the canister jar, and the set also includes my Mama's Pyrex pattern as well as the silverware.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Next, using this diagram, you will sew it together.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--8hL7h9-31Y/Uq8X1Z-GJwI/AAAAAAAAAww/qvCMR0Qvgfo/s1600/2013-12-16+06.13.54.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="342" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--8hL7h9-31Y/Uq8X1Z-GJwI/AAAAAAAAAww/qvCMR0Qvgfo/s640/2013-12-16+06.13.54.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a class="asset-img-link" href="http://sewtakeahike.typepad.com/.a/6a00e009895feb8833019b03147ba6970d-popup" onclick="window.open( this.href, '_blank', 'width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0' ); return false" style="display: inline;"></a> </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
A few tips:</h3>
<div style="text-align: left;">
1. All the blocks are at 100% unless indicated by the diagram.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
2. All seam allowances are 1/4''.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
3. Some of the sashing pieces will be slightly bigger than the block they are being sewn to. That is ok. Just trim the sashing pieces down after you've sewn each section. And trim each section as you go.</div>
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
Instructions:</h3>
1. Sew one of each block: mama's pyrex, simple sweet jar, knife, spoon and fork. Sew three simple sweet jars at 75%.<br />
2. Sew sashing A to the top of the mama's pyrex block.<br />
3. Sew sashing B to the top of the largest simple sweet jar.<br />
3. Sew the knife, spoon and fork blocks together as indicated in the diagram, then sew sashing C to the top of the blocks.<br />
4. Sew two of the smaller simple sweet jars together side by side.<br />
5. Sew a 1 1/2'' sashing strip to each side of one of the smaller simple sweet jars.<br />
6. Sew a 1 1/2'' sashing strip to the top of the jar in step 5.<br />
7. Sew the small jar in step 6 to the top of the small jars in step 4.<br />
8. Sew the large jar to the left side of the utensil block.<br />
9. Sew the small stacked jar block to the right side of the utensil block.<br />
10. Sew a 1 1/4'' sashing strip to the bottom and then one to the right of the jar/utensil block<br />
11. Sew the mama's pyrex block to the left of the jar/utensil block.<br />
12. Make a quilt sandwich, quilt using sparkles with Aurifil thread, then bind.<br />
<br />

The "<a href="http://sew-ichigo.blogspot.com/p/shop.html" target="_blank">In the Pantry</a>" pattern set includes one pattern with some gentle curved seams. A great beginners pattern if you've not sewn curved seams before.<br />
<br />
To help you along the way, I've created a short video to guide you when cutting your 1/4" seam allowance around curved seams. This method is much easier and faster than using a seam guide to mark around the pattern piece, then cutting from dot to dot around the pattern.<br />

Go ahead and try it, it really is as easy as it seems!<br />

Kerry and I are no strangers when it comes to Kitchen-alia. It's our favorite thing to make patterns for so it's probably no surprise to you that's what our latest pattern set is all about. It's called "<a href="http://sew-ichigo.blogspot.com/p/shop.html" target="_blank">In the Pantry</a>" and is a bounty of patterns which is full of options.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://sew-ichigo.blogspot.com/p/shop.html" target="_blank"><img alt="http://sew-ichigo.blogspot.com/p/shop.html" border="0" height="636" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-godincE442U/UooBtf2c4iI/AAAAAAAAAvM/DGmEMrAckFI/s640/In+the+Pantry+Cover.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Mama's Pyrex includes an introduction to curved seams, which is a first here at Sew-Ichigo. (Find a short video <a href="http://sew-ichigo.blogspot.com/2013/11/easily-add-14-seam-allowance-to-curved_18.html" target="_blank">here</a> on how to easily cut your 1/4" seam allowance for these curved seams.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This pattern can be modified to a stack of two, three or four bowls.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vBblcj4Nsjo/UooGwXsW3-I/AAAAAAAAAvc/hRn9Vze8k5o/s1600/Mamas+Pyrex.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vBblcj4Nsjo/UooGwXsW3-I/AAAAAAAAAvc/hRn9Vze8k5o/s400/Mamas+Pyrex.jpg" width="270" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The Storage Jars are full of options as well. You can mix and match lid handles, labels, and include a gift tag on your jar. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BTEG5tW9jSU/UooHUPQliaI/AAAAAAAAAvk/3IaZMOfImBo/s1600/4jarslrg.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BTEG5tW9jSU/UooHUPQliaI/AAAAAAAAAvk/3IaZMOfImBo/s640/4jarslrg.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then there's the knife, spoon and fork which you can bejewel or not. You choose!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YBhqSPX7wfw/UooHjob7D4I/AAAAAAAAAvs/RGVAprNlGGg/s1600/Knife+spoon+fork.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="335" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YBhqSPX7wfw/UooHjob7D4I/AAAAAAAAAvs/RGVAprNlGGg/s400/Knife+spoon+fork.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>

We've all had that moment when we have joined a piece of fabric to a diagonal seam on a paper piecing project only to open it out and find that it is too small despite using a massive piece of fabric! A way round this is to make a quick freezer paper template of the pattern piece. This technique also works for adding specific sections of fabric/fussy cutting. I think <a href="http://www.liveacolorfullife.net/" target="_blank">Cindy</a> first suggested this method to me for which I am profoundly grateful! To see how this works I am using Chic from the <a href="http://sew-ichigo.blogspot.co.uk/p/shop.html" target="_blank">'Get Your Geek On'</a> pattern set, there are diagonals galore!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8y4gDFrJDAk/Ug05RxjNC_I/AAAAAAAAI1I/VexPO5JsO7Y/s1600/IMG_2009.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8y4gDFrJDAk/Ug05RxjNC_I/AAAAAAAAI1I/VexPO5JsO7Y/s640/IMG_2009.jpg" height="304" width="640" /></a></div>
As foundation paper piecing means that you work from the back of the finished block, it can get confusing where there are diagonal seams and you have to check each piece of fabric to make sure that when opened out that there is sufficient coverage. So instead of cutting chunks of fabric in the hope they will fit, instead, trace the paper pattern roughly onto freezer paper. Remember to transfer the letter and number labels from the pattern and straight grain line arrows help too.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VySxmEFkHLY/Ug05Tgf1kHI/AAAAAAAAI1o/MxZ_6QCmRMs/s1600/IMG_2014.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VySxmEFkHLY/Ug05Tgf1kHI/AAAAAAAAI1o/MxZ_6QCmRMs/s640/IMG_2014.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Cut out freezer paper pieces, and iron to the reverese of the desired fabric, in this case a background print. Leaving the freezer paper on the fabric, cut out leaving a 1/2" seam allowance all round. This generous amount gives you a little wiggle room.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-O3Gwm4n-pQU/Ug05T-ks7nI/AAAAAAAAI1s/MYIBBIBXF1M/s1600/IMG_2013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-O3Gwm4n-pQU/Ug05T-ks7nI/AAAAAAAAI1s/MYIBBIBXF1M/s640/IMG_2013.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Place on to your foundation pattern and sew as you usually would, it helps to leave the freezer paper on to identify the pieces as you go.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-S9-i6njiPoY/Ug05TDdK4AI/AAAAAAAAI1g/hM_e8lNXyYg/s1600/IMG_2012.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-S9-i6njiPoY/Ug05TDdK4AI/AAAAAAAAI1g/hM_e8lNXyYg/s640/IMG_2012.jpg" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You can see how the fabric for piece A3 is ample size and opens out to cover the area and the 1/4" seam allowance with a little extra left over.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-suWVJyDrgWQ/Ug05So-M8-I/AAAAAAAAI1Q/TEhDW7oQIQI/s1600/IMG_2011.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-suWVJyDrgWQ/Ug05So-M8-I/AAAAAAAAI1Q/TEhDW7oQIQI/s640/IMG_2011.jpg" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
This technique saves time overall as you shouldn't need to unpick and pieces because they are too small and to be honest I do this every time with diagonals- even if it is just making a quick freezer paper template for a single piece. I hope that helps!verykerryberryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07485169920671733941noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1497143646217236954.post-27778759182970027792013-08-12T23:38:00.000-07:002013-08-13T00:54:10.813-07:00Get Your Geek OnGeekiness: a subject close to our hearts and yours I am guessing so it seemed the perfect theme for a new pattern set. Yay! Penny and I are over the moon to present our newest pattern set, Parisienne Cafe. It's in the <a href="http://sew-ichigo.blogspot.co.uk/p/shop.html" target="_blank">Sew-Ichigo shop</a> now and being added to our <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/user/723443/pattern-store?NAVIGATION_PAGE_CONTEXT_ATTR=NONE" target="_blank">Craftsy shop</a> too.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HTto_vNkqUE/UYfFISTMLoI/AAAAAAAAICQ/0FuiCfVYto8/s1600/922800_590135354339075_345598833_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="632" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HTto_vNkqUE/UYfFISTMLoI/AAAAAAAAICQ/0FuiCfVYto8/s640/922800_590135354339075_345598833_n.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For those of you who have bought our patterns before you will notice a change. The patterns are present as a single unit for you to cut up into sections. The cutting lines are marked with a thick blue line and a scissors icon. This gives you additional flexibility if you want to size the block up and down and it makes the pattern more accurate. It also means that there will be no paper in the seams which I found a lot easier when sewing the blocks together. The patterns are for foundation piecing but can also be traced or printed on to freezer paper if you prefer to piece that wasy.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Are you ready for some close ups?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Starting with 'Espresso Cups' The easiest pattern in the set. Make one, make 4, whatever you like! It's such a fast pattern you can easily make multiples and use different prints and colours.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0jCUhxFBe6I/UYfIAQYZkpI/AAAAAAAAIC0/MBwn4u-slDQ/s1600/espresso+cup+set.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0jCUhxFBe6I/UYfIAQYZkpI/AAAAAAAAIC0/MBwn4u-slDQ/s640/espresso+cup+set.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Followed by 'Coffee Grinder', this is an advanced beginner- lots of straight seams but some small pieces. The 'Cafe' label was made stamping a piece of fabric before adding it to the block. It is the first piece in that section which makes it easier to place precisely- I used a little dab Sewline fabric glue stick to get it exactly where I wanted it. We have a stamping <a href="http://sew-ichigo.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/quickie-stamping-tip.html" target="_blank">tutorial</a> here.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5gc3AFzmM0Q/UYfH_BQoXuI/AAAAAAAAICk/_x6byRHczaw/s1600/CoffeeGrinderSIpat+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5gc3AFzmM0Q/UYfH_BQoXuI/AAAAAAAAICk/_x6byRHczaw/s400/CoffeeGrinderSIpat+copy.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The 'Tea pot' pattern is another advanced beginner pattern and such an elegant shape! The main fabric is again the first piece of fabric you will add so you can centre motifs and fussy cut patterns to make the most of the slender shape.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QduxdxswsUM/UYfIA41gPNI/AAAAAAAAIC8/wS7Mxc8LYzw/s1600/teapot+pic.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QduxdxswsUM/UYfIA41gPNI/AAAAAAAAIC8/wS7Mxc8LYzw/s400/teapot+pic.jpg" width="335" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And finally, the 'French Press/Cafetiere'. This is an intermediate pattern, mainly because of the size of the pieces. The hardest bit is the feet- but then I always find diagonals need a bit of extra attention! The block is sized at 5 1/4" x 7 3/4" and then strips are added at the sides and top for background and at the base for the 'table' it is sitting on. This makes it easy to make the sizing match common quilt block sizing- 10" square, 12 1/2" square and so on.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FYRoT0dWOZU/UYfH_KvIafI/AAAAAAAAICg/UJzGlG_Xxsk/s1600/FrenchPressSIpat+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FYRoT0dWOZU/UYfH_KvIafI/AAAAAAAAICg/UJzGlG_Xxsk/s400/FrenchPressSIpat+copy.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We hope you enjoy our new designs, available as a pack in our shop right now! Look out on our blogs for a chance to win a pattern set too!</div>

That didn't put Penny off, using the<a href="http://sew-ichigo.blogspot.co.uk/p/shop.html" target="_blank"> Sew-Ichigo Strawberry</a> block along with a little help from nineteen other quilters...<br />

1. Make 1 set of Noel letters and 4 candy trees following the pattern instructions. Place a tree under each letter and join-the width of the letters and the trees are the same. Join each pair of letters/trees together to make the centre of the mini.<br />
2. Add sashing. I added background solid sashing in grey starting at the sides- 2 strips each measuring 2" x 5 1/2", and then 2 strips across the top and bottom each measuring 2" x 11 1/2".<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gLDwwEkNyNE/ULMzOnrEjfI/AAAAAAAAGVk/Bjfr9RGmV5w/s1600/Noelsashing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="502" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gLDwwEkNyNE/ULMzOnrEjfI/AAAAAAAAGVk/Bjfr9RGmV5w/s640/Noelsashing.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3. Add a further sashing border in a colour print. Add the side strips first, 2" x 8 1/2" and then the top and bottom strips each measuring 2' x 14 1/2".</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fLITSjwEo28/ULMzQPd4VSI/AAAAAAAAGVs/uDo27t6Bc68/s1600/Noelsashingcol.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="502" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fLITSjwEo28/ULMzQPd4VSI/AAAAAAAAGVs/uDo27t6Bc68/s640/Noelsashingcol.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4. Make a quilt sandwich with batting and background fabric cut and inch larger than your mini quitl top. Spray baste/ pin or sew baste layers together. Quilt as desired.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
5. Add a single layer binding- see my tutorial <a href="http://verykerryberry.blogspot.co.uk/2011/01/single-binding-tutorial.html" target="_blank">here for binding</a> and <a href="http://verykerryberry.blogspot.co.uk/2010/07/mitred-corners-binding-tutorial.html" target="_blank">here for mitred corners.</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="text-align: center;">Your mini is complete! We would love to see your Sew-Ichigo project makes, you can add them to <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/sew-ichigo/" target="_blank">our Flickr group.</a></span></div>
verykerryberryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07485169920671733941noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1497143646217236954.post-15023071799885275392012-11-20T23:29:00.000-08:002012-11-20T23:29:02.297-08:00Sew Very Christmas Drawstring Bags<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://incolororder.bigcartel.com/product/lined-drawstring-bag-pdf-pattern" target="_blank">Jeni's lined drawstring pattern </a>was ideal for our '<a href="http://sew-ichigo.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/sew-very-christmas-our-new-pattern-set.html" target="_blank">Sew Very Christmas'</a> blocks. Jeni gives dimensions to make 8 different bag sizes. All we had to do was make the blocks the same size as the exterior main pieces and follow Jeni's instructions! The "tiny" gift bag was perfect for two candy trees side by side on the front and back. I used Anna Maria Horner's Little Folks voiles for the jewel like colours and motifs, they reminded me of decorated trees, and Essex linen in <a href="http://www.robertkaufman.com/fabrics/essex/" target="_blank">'Bleached White'</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3mbFNRnTouA/UKjRh9CVlkI/AAAAAAAAGLc/kA9unSkzguc/s1600/candy+tree+bag+bordered+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="313" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3mbFNRnTouA/UKjRh9CVlkI/AAAAAAAAGLc/kA9unSkzguc/s400/candy+tree+bag+bordered+copy.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To make the exterior main pieces I made 4 candy tree blocks, finished size 2 "x 3" and added rectangles as below. Note the directions of the trees. I used a single panel to make the lower sections of the exterior main pieces and put a horizontal fold along the centre as there will be no seam at the bottom to align the side gussets. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aq1KkR63ML4/UKjRjloEPpI/AAAAAAAAGLk/LKeTPbe3dJo/s1600/minitreebaglayout.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aq1KkR63ML4/UKjRjloEPpI/AAAAAAAAGLk/LKeTPbe3dJo/s640/minitreebaglayout.jpg" width="534" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For the 'Noel' bag, I increased the 'Noel' blocks by 150% on the print option to make each letter measure 3" x 3"finished size and joined them together in a square arrangement.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6ewRXDMPIdY/UKjSV69FpSI/AAAAAAAAGME/d3f8mdq2MSo/s1600/noelbagbordername.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="586" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6ewRXDMPIdY/UKjSV69FpSI/AAAAAAAAGME/d3f8mdq2MSo/s640/noelbagbordername.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I used the "project bag" pattern and added sashing strips to the 'Noel' block to make the main exterior front (see diagram) and used a plain linen for the back-Robert Kaufman's Essex Linen in 'Steel' and assorted solids form my stash. The floral accent fabric is a Denyse Schmidt DS print.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9q9DLUZvCY8/UKjRpMYVRxI/AAAAAAAAGLs/HRtCTDwVfZk/s1600/noel+bag+layout.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9q9DLUZvCY8/UKjRpMYVRxI/AAAAAAAAGLs/HRtCTDwVfZk/s640/noel+bag+layout.jpg" width="638" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
For the Christmas dress bag...</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tULbzYbzN7Y/UKp3sSo567I/AAAAAAAAAf8/ept9OH3KnlM/s1600/Christmas+dress+bag.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tULbzYbzN7Y/UKp3sSo567I/AAAAAAAAAf8/ept9OH3KnlM/s640/Christmas+dress+bag.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
I made Jeni's "everything bag". The only thing I changed was I didn't add the gusset as suggested in the pattern. I used some spoonflower fabric for the dress and DS quilts for the background as well as some of Tasha's Simple Life for the accent fabric in the drawstring area. Here's a diagram for how I pieced the front exterior of the bag to get it to the correct dimensions.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZGakLnHoTuA/UKp4W4dQfBI/AAAAAAAAAgE/tffH-S-zqwg/s1600/Christmas+dress+bag+assembly+diagram.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="596" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZGakLnHoTuA/UKp4W4dQfBI/AAAAAAAAAgE/tffH-S-zqwg/s640/Christmas+dress+bag+assembly+diagram.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
And then, my favorite of the bags I made, the 'Retro bulb' bag using the "CD bag" pattern.</div>
